The twelve principle artists have been chosen for the showcase Contemporary Maine Art: Forever Young - 12 established artists +12 emerging talents, which will take place on Wednesday, June 11, from 6 to 10 p.m., at the A%lan Gallery in Rockport. This will be part of the tri-venue fundraiser for the Farnsworth Art Museum, [2] sponsored by Cellardoor Vineyard, entitled Pop the Cork!
Organized by Suzette McAvoy, the former chief curator of the Farnsworth, this artistic element of the event brings together works of twelve established artists who will each invite an up and coming talent to join in a showcase of contemporary Maine art. The twelve established artists are Sam Cady, Harold Garde, Sam Gelber, Connie Hayes, Stew Henderson, Charlie Hewitt, Alison Hildreth, Eric Hopkins, Jeff Kellar, Alan Magee, Dennis Pinette, and Dudley Zopp. The master artists - and those they've selected to represent - are paired below.
Pop the Cork! celebrates both the Farnsworth's sixtieth anniversary year and the spectacular preview opening of the Cellardoor Villa, formerly known as the "Yellow House," on the corner of Commercial Street (Rt. 1) and West Street (Rt. 90) in Rockport. This multi-venue event is being catered by Trillium, with wine selections provided by Cellardoor Vineyards.
The other two venues rounding out the evening are the Rockport Marina where, under a tent, the Ann Delaney Trio will provide cool sounds for wonderful evening of dancing; and the "Yellow House", completely transformed into the Cellardoor Villa, [3] an exciting, exotic, eclectic addition to the Midcoast scene, which guests will tour in small groups throughout the evening. At A%lan Gallery, guests viewing the showcase will not only partake in the food and wine, but also enjoy the unmistakable, red-hot music of Sly-Chi's Funk & Soul, 8 piece band. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Farnsworth Art Museum.
