Things are bustling at Beth’s Farm stand in Warren, pictured to the right. Perhaps more Mainers should visit this vegetable and fruit haven, since apparently we’re the fattest people in New England . But more and more of us are using food stamps  to consume that food. Some people in Brewer got free food as 8,000 pounds of crabs took to the streets on their way from Virginia to New Brunswick. Lobster also made its way to New York, via the NYTimes , where Florence Fabricant didn’t mention the recent Fancy Food Show award won by Hancock Gourmet Lobster, documented here over a month ago , but she did give some good NYTimes real estate to this Maine Mac and Cheese.  I think someone should make an award-winning frozen poutine, but the PPH  didn't go there, they just discussed the merits of Poutine at three different Portland-area restaurants . However much I love fries and gravy and cheese, I still have to say that the plain fries at Evangeline might top the rest. Speaking of packaged Maine culinary delights, check out the clam chowder kit  from Mike's Clam Shack  in Wells.
We cooked it up here in the office: it's the best tasting chowder we've had out of a can. All you do is add some cream and butter (and really, could anything with cream and butter be bad?) and heat. And voilà, you've got yourself a half a gallon of tasty chowder in the comfort of your own home for $12.95.
