Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer Sullivan, who has played with the Paul Winter Consort and many others, taps his network of fascinating new musicians and composers to give us an evening of music and conversation like we’ve never heard before. Soprano and MPBN host Suzanne Nance, Julliard School faculty and percussionist Gordon Gottlieb, and pianist and violinist Jessica Chen, a Bay Chamber Young Star winner.

Halifax-based Gypsophilia is a group of seven young performers whose music straddles the jazz and indie worlds. The band started in 2004 as a Django Reinhardt tribute, but soon found itself mixing gypsy jazz with klezmer, funk, classical music, indie rock, and bebop, composing original music, and selling out shows all over Canada. This performance marks the beginning of their 2013 U.S. tour.

Described as “sexy, soulful, genuine, and edgy” by the San Francisco Bay Guardian and an “indie folk powerhouse” by Bend’s Source Weekly, Valerie Orth is a fearless and genre-bending songwriter. Her distinctive hybrid of rock, ska, punk, folk and trip-hop reaches out and grabs your attention; her live performances captivate and charm at once. Big Time featuring Mike Billings will open.

The 2013 Eastport Kitchen Gardens tour is set for Sunday, August 18, 1-4 p.m. The raindate is the following Sunday. A variety of Eastport kitchen gardens will be open to the public. Maps and tickets will be available at the Peavey Memorial Library located in the downtown at the intersection of Water and Key streets. Tickets are $3 each with proceeds to benefit the library. The Castine Arts Association is proud to sponsor its first plein air festival on Saturday, July 27th, 2013 in the Town of Castine, Maine. Thirty five artists will be accepted to participate in this one day art event. The day will begin at the Castine Town Common on Court Street at 7:30 AM where the event’s artists will register and then proceed to various locations within the Town of Castine to create one or more original paintings on site. At 6 PM, the arts association will host a public reception, artist award ceremony and art sale at the Maine Maritime Academy's Harborview Room.

Bar Harbor’s Third Annual Fashion Night Out

Promises to be more exciting and fun than last year with more than double the merchants and restaurants participating. This fashion forward event that started in New York City in 2009, now happens in 1600 cities worldwide and now for its third year in a row downtown Bar Harbor merchants have opted to host their own in-store events on Thursday, September 6, from 6p.m. –10p.m.

A free self-guided tour of local art galleries, art studios, museums, and alternative art venues is all part of Bar Harbor's First Friday Art Walk Friday, October 4th 6 - 9p.m. This festive evening includes galleries that will host special events showcasing artists, demonstrations, exhibits and receptions for local, Maine and National artists and craftspeople along with special theatre, musical and art events throughout the downtown.
