How Do We Get There?” sponsored by the Portland Society of Architects and the Urban Land Institute. My fellow panelists included former city councilor and mayor Jim Cohen, Muskie School professor Charlie Colgan, CBRE/The Boulos Company president Morris Fisher and investigative journalist Colin Woodard. The title of the event threw me off as I thought it was focused on green initiatives but the core question

An Airport with Rocking Chairs
Submitted by Jessica Tomlinson on Mon, 01/05/2009 - 7:32pm.Flying over the holidays made me realize how much I like our local airport, the quaint PWM. I lived here for years before I knew the meaning of the abbreviation. It’s a reference to the early days of aviation when pilots would follow beacon lights from airport to airport. The last light before Portland was at Westbrook, 10 miles to the west, so PWM stands for Portland-Westbrook-Municipal. Which is located in South Portland.

Surviving an Ice Storm - and a TV Show
Submitted by Al Diamon on Mon, 12/15/2008 - 10:17am.Winning the battles of muscle, mental prowess and manipulation required of contestants on the TV show “Survivor” is probably the single greatest accomplishment a human being can achieve.
Well, except for winning “American Idol.”
But triumphing on “Survivor” while wearing a bow tie – that’s something extra special. Like accepting the Nobel Peace Prize dressed in your boxer shorts with little hearts on them.
