The period leading up to the Jewish New Year is a time of reflection and T’Shuvah; returning to one’s true self. Re-capturing youthful enthusiasm can be an elusive endeavor. Member potter Susan Horowitz has taken this time to reconnect with the wonder and awe of creating with clay which inspired her to become a potter in the first place. She has made covered jars, small bowls, drinking vessels, and pots outside her usual production line and color palette. This September, Maine Potters' Market will feature Horowitz’s beautifully handcrafted pieces.

You are invited to view some new blissful, beautiful, soulful moments of dogs in moving vehicles. Libations, snacks, and doggie treats are also served. Dogs welcome. Cats, too — but come at their own risk!

 Work being exhibited will include oil paintings, watercolors, and monotypes. Janowitz spends time each summer at the former home of Fairfield Porter on Great Spruce Island in Penobscot Bay, and the work on exhibit in Stonington is a result of this time in Maine.

Maine Discovery Museum’s tenth annual gala dinner-auction features eighty fabulous one-of-a-kind artworks created on the theme of “Maine Discovery” by artists from all across the state.

Featuring over twenty female artistsans and craftwomen who will display their high quality, handcrafted pottery, handbags, glasswork, clothing and accessories, home accents, stained glass, and sculptural ceramic art.

Painters, photographers, and sculptors will display and sell their original works on the Village Green at the corner of Main and Mt. Desert Streets. Rain or shine.

The gWatson Gallery exhibits new paintings by Hannah Bureau. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday, August 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., as part of Stonington's First Night Art Walk. Bureau’s paintings, landscapes inhabited by shapes and objects, both abstract and recognizable, take an indirect approach to the landscape.

East Boothbay watercolorist Tony van Hasselt presents a month-long show at the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset. Tony van Hasselt, as an elected member of the American Watercolor Society, has been painting across the globe for more than forty years, and this show reflects his passion for plein air painting.
