The Portland Chamber Music Festival opens its seventeenth season with a colorful showcase of instrumental brilliance, featuring Deborah Hoffman, principal harpist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Featured works include Ravel’s stunning Introduction and Allegro alongside pieces by Ibert and Dan Sonenberg of the University of Southern Maine faculty. Ending the program, we wish a happy two hundredth birthday to beloved composer Robert Schumann.

Whiffletree is a classically trained duo with traditional and folk leanings. Seth and Tyler Yentes use their agrarian and rural roots to create original acoustic music ranging from rich and spicy to tender and sweet.

The Northeast's superlative veteran string band doesn't qualify as typical traditionalist. The band fuses an eclectic mix of traditional roots music, rock, country, soul, and gospel with the high, lonesome vocal sound and instruments of bluegrass.

It's been more than twenty-five years since Marshall Crenshaw broke through to both critical and commercial acclaim with his 1982 self-titled debut and its infectious, era-defining pop hit "Someday, Someway." Expect an evening of warm vocals and riveting guitar work from this master.

Come to the parade grounds of Fort William Henry at Colonial Pemaquid and enjoy Celtic music performed outdoors by popular local duo, Fred Gosbee and Julia Lane. Rain date is September 6.

The fifth annual Trekkapalooza will showcase a diverse and talented set of Maine-based acts in an energizing and fun "Battle of the Bands." Each Band will be eligible to win a cash prize and compete for best “Bus Band 2010.”
